Jantar Mantar 

New Delhi  

This astronomical observatory was built by Maharaja Jai Singh from 1724. it is such a great work of functional architecture with wonderful constructivist lines. Great inspiration for pattern and patchwork. We visited last time we were in India and we loved it.

Natures Dye Pot

Exploring Hapa-Zome (flower pounding), cold bundling and rusting on cloth; two Sunday’s in late spring to introduce you to natural fabric colouring techniques using flora gathered from the local surroundings. The second session will ‘reveal’ your findings and further explore mordent’s, leaf prints and flower trapping.

Time: 10am – 3pm (bring a packed lunch and mug for tea/coffee)

Venue: The Arts Complex, St Margaret’s House, Meadowbank, Edinburgh

Cost: £95 for 2 days (£55 for 1 day only) – some materials provided at cost price.

Please bring with you to the first session: • Pair of rubber gloves and apron • Ziplock type freezer bags • Small notebook or sketchbook and pencil • 1/4 m each - white silk Habotai, cotton sheeting and/or linen or wool • Small hammer, tweezers and embroidery scissors • Wide masking tape • Wooden chopping board • Soft wire, elastic bands • Spray bottle
Please bring with you to the second session: • Any interesting flower or plant materials you may wish to work with • Embroidery scissors, tweezers, • Baking parchment • Fusible Webbing (Fuse FX) or Bondaweb or Mistyfuse • Backing fabric (Any fabric with a smooth surface) • Chiffon or organza

Kim Gunn (MA RCA) is an artist and lecturer who has been working in textiles for over 20 years. She teaches on a range of textile and design courses at Edinburgh College.
